The auricle is made up of cartilage, small muscles and the skin covering it, and it collects the surrounding sounds and transmits them to the ear canal. The appearance of protruding ears occurs when the folds of the auricle are not fully formed, the angle between auricula and the skull increases, or the earlobe is large. This is not an aesthetic appearance.
During the examination, it is understood which problem caused the deformity of the pinna. The surgical plan is made according to the examination findings. While prominent ear surgery is performed in the operating room under general anesthesia for children, it can be performed in the office conditions with local anesthesia for adults. The ear cartilage is reached with an incision made behind the ear, the necessary shaping is done with stitches, and the earlobe is also reduced if necessary.
After the procedure, both ears are covered with a bandage. Covering the ears with bandages and hair bands for a while supports the new shape.
